Presentation Title
What Should DBAs and Developers Do to Really Utilize All This New and Fast Hardware?
Abstract
New systems get faster and faster all the time, if we can believe the benchmarks and marketing. Memory, CPUs and networks get faster, disks get bigger but performance of old applications doesn't always improve when one upgrades to the new hardware. Of course, it is important to buy the right hardware, but more often when one buys the right hardware, the performance doesn't improve as expected. A couple of problems are responsible for that. DBAs, developers and management are to blame and sometimes they have to work together to improve the performance to the level that was promised. In this presentation, we will have a look at the options that Oracle DBAs and developers have to improve the performance of these applications. If managers are interested, they can also learn how they cripple applications by making the "right" decisons when consolidating and implementing systems.
