Presentation Title

Oracle System Statistics

Abstract

System statistics are like Yeti — everybody has heard about them but (almost) no one has seen them in action. This feature, which has been in place for quite a while, influences execution plans and thus, Oracle performance. Many DBAs say this kind of statistics are of little use — but is it really the case? If you haven't calculated system statistics for your databases, this presentation is for you. You will see if they are worthy of your attention. Paul will show you how to calculate them and how the CBO takes advantage of their existence.
