Abstract
A "Sin" in this case, is a bad practice that causes great hardship to the business during database upgrades.
This paper shows examples of real world cases submitted to support "Sinful" queries giving wrong results or unexplainable data error messages usually after an upgrade. These practices can have a negative effect on the performance of the queries after the migration, too, so learn to recognize them and avoid purgatory.
The usual argument from customers is that "it used to work".
