Presentation Title

Exadata Storage Indexes, Inside and Out

Abstract

Most experienced Exadata DMAs have a general idea of what Exadata storage indexes are and how they work, and have often witnessed significant query performance improvement when storage indexes are used. However, since storage index behavior is wholly and automatically controlled by Oracle, DMAs have come to discount them as a reliable optimization tool.

In this presentation, John will conduct a deep dive into how storage indexes work, how their usage varies based on workload conditions, and demonstrate how to trace storage indexes to better understand how Oracle uses them under various scenarios.
