Presentation Title

Inside Oracle Exalytics and Oracle TimesTen In-Memory Database

Abstract

The recently-released Oracle Exalytics and accompanying TimesTen database provide an in-memory data analysis environment designed to be used alongside Oracle Exadata. TimesTen has been enhanced to provide a set of analytic functions and calculation capabilities making it now suitable for a DSS environment, and the infiniband connection present in Exalytics makes it suitable to connect to Exadata and take advantage of the filtering capabilities of this database platform.

This session will look at the internals of Exalytics and TimesTen, explain its relationship to Exadata, and demonstrate through examples and benchmarks how it can improve the performance of Exadata, and regular Oracle database, queries. We will look at what diagnostics and tracing are available for this environment, examine topics like in-memory cache refresh, and provide guidelines for when this type of solution will improve the performance of data warehouse-style queries.
