Presentation Title

Lessons Learned, Version 2010.03

Abstract

This year, Cary will continue the Hotsos Symposium tradition of "Lessons Learned" papers by speaking about short topics selected from his experiences. In this session, Cary will discuss as many of the following topics as time will allow:

  • Testing and the Go/No-Go Matrix. How do you decide what tests to conduct? Choose the wrong test, and the time you invest will be wasted. The Go/No-Go Matrix helps you decide.
  • On the Importance of Diagnosing Before Resolving. Is there ever a time when the problem you resolve is not at the top of your response time profile? Yes, there is.
  • What I Learned From C. J. Date. Cary is scheduled to attend a C. J. Date seminar. In this segment, he will list some key points that he learned during that session.
  • My Whole System Is Slow. Now What? Your system is slow, but Cary recommends Method R, a method that focuses on individual response times of individual users. How is such a method useful in a context where performance problems are widespread?
