Biography

Alex Gorbachev began working with Oracle in 1997 in Russia. He recently moved to Ottawa, Canada and is currently working as Database Administrator for The Pythian Group. Prior to that, he was an Oracle DBA with Amadeus in Germany building and supporting highly available solutions for travel reservations.

Alex has delivered several presentations about RAC, load testing, connection management, block change tracking internals and Enterprise Manager Extensibility. He spoke at UKOUG, IOUG, Miracle Scotland DBF and SIOUG. He also published couple articles in IOUG SELECT Magazine.

Presentation Title

Workload Management with Oracle RAC

Abstract

This presentation is focused on techniques to manage workload in Oracle RAC environments. It covers Load Balancing Advisory, Oracle Services, how it integrates with application code, what happens on client side and what happens on server side, what processes of Oracle instance and CRS processes are involved.

We will discover how different configurations and settings work, in what circumstances they should be used, how to troubleshoot, trace and monitor load balancing. We cover 9i, 10g as well as new features introduced in 11g.

Please keep in mind that general knowledge of connection management is assumed.
